Signs you need an aerial repair

A bad picture doesn't always mean you need a new aerial. These are the faults our engineers see most often, and what usually fixes them.

  • Every TV lost signal at onceUsually a failed masthead amplifier or its power supply, or a fault at the aerial. We test and replace the amplifier or power unit before looking at the aerial.
  • Picture breaks up when it rainsUsually water in a cable joint or the aerial connection box. We replace the damaged section of cable and seal the connections.
  • Picture drops out on and offUsually a rusty aerial, a loose connector or weather-damaged cable. We repair the connection, or replace the aerial if corrosion has set in.
  • Some channels missing, others fineUsually an aerial that has moved slightly out of line, or an older aerial that no longer suits the frequencies used in your area. We realign it, or fit a suitable wideband aerial.
  • Only one room has a problemUsually the wall socket, a splitter or the cable run to that room. We trace and repair that part and leave the main aerial alone.
  • Problems started after strong windUsually the aerial has moved, or a bracket or lashing has worked loose. We resecure and realign it, or replace it if it is bent or unsafe.

What our customers say

★★★★★
He quickly diagnosed the problem as not being the aerial, but the masthead amp & power unit. He had a spare on his van, and the work was completed within 30 minutes.

TV aerial repair FAQs

Can you fix poor Freeview reception without a new aerial?

Often, yes. Many faults come from a cable, a connector, a socket or a failed amplifier rather than the aerial itself. We test the system first so you only replace what's actually faulty.

How much does a TV aerial repair cost?

It depends on the fault, access to the aerial, the cable route and any parts needed. A cable or connector repair usually costs less than a new aerial. You get a free, no obligation quote before any work starts.

Do you charge a call out fee?

There's no call out charge for quoted work. You're given the price before the job starts, so you can decide whether to go ahead.

Can you repair my aerial the same day?

Same-day visits are often possible, depending on your area and engineer availability, and a local one-hour service may be available. Calling early in the day gives you the best chance.

Why have my channels disappeared?

Common causes are a weak signal, damaged cabling, a failed amplifier or a tuning issue. Try retuning your TV first. If channels are still missing, we'll test the system to find the cause.

Why does only one TV in my house have a bad picture?

If the other TVs are fine, the aerial is probably working. The fault is more likely the wall socket, the lead, a splitter or the cable run to that room.
